KC Help Trailer Adventures
By: Jerry Rhoads ~ 5/15/2019

KC Help Tri Cities Volunteer Glenn Hollenberg from Holy Spirit council 10653 is checking the load of wheelchairs that are being sent to St Joseph’s Knights of Columbus Council 8872 in Colbert Washington.

TrailerAdventuresBlogPostB05152019_s.jpgThese wheelchairs are part of the Global Wheelchair Mission that change the lives of people with disabilities worldwide. Our Washington State Knights of Columbus participates in the national program by periodically purchasing a large container of 110 wheelchairs for the K of C Councils in Washington at $150 each. The Councils in turn reimburse the State Program and direct where they go. KC Help supports this program through managing the storage and distribution of these wheelchairs. These wheelchairs are built by “Drive”, a home healthcare manufacture providing high value durable medical equipment. They are rugged and reliable units.

This KC Help Trailer Adventure to Colbert was 169 miles one-way. We are happy to report the KC Help trailer ran smoothly and the chairs arrived on time and in great condition to the Colbert Council. Members Dwayne Berens, David Gay and Art Smalley were instrumental in facilitating this delivery with Greg Woodard and Mike Bender doing the heavy lifting for us older guys.

Since 2009, the Knights of Columbus has collaborated with the American Wheelchair Mission and Canadian Wheelchair Foundation, which fall under the umbrella of the Global Wheelchair Mission. The goal of this initiative is to provide aid to those who lack the freedom of mobility in our communities and around the world. The Colbert council is donating these wheelchairs to local veterans, hospital, churches, senior centers and neighbors in their area and in their district, which includes as far north as Colville, Newport, and the northern Spokane area.

These wheelchairs change the lives of their recipients. The Colbert Council 8872 obtained 26 of these new wheelchairs for their area. This is not a new thing for these guys. The Colbert Council has led the State in this program for many years over the last decade. This is a great way they are putting their faith into action and involving their K of C district and the entire community in this rewarding charitable work.
